Do you have a Minute?

Do you have a minute to 'stop and smell the roses?'

Can you take a minute to just stare out the window? Take a minute to hug your loved ones, listen to your favourite song or sit on a park bench and sketch the surroundings?

Because let’s face it – 'smelling the roses' isn’t easy to do every day. Life takes over, we get busy, and time seems to disappear.

We open the laptop, fret over the things we can't control, horror at news stories and worry about the future.

Or in Art, we agonise when things aren't going our way, we can't figure out the material or we make a mistake.

But all of these things are easier to deal with when we just take a minute.

Granted, these brand-new Porcelain Roses don't smell, but they can represent taking that moment for yourself.

They're cooking away in the kiln as I type this. In fact, I'm taking a minute to enjoy typing this with a cuppa tea beside me as I sit cosied up in bed (it's a hard life!) with Lisa-the-cat protesting that she wants to sit where my laptop is.

I'm taking a minute to enjoy staring out the window at the garden being coated in the Northern Irish rain, awaiting its break so Moby-the-dog and I can go on our long Sunday walk up the towpath.  And I think while I'm there, I'll even make sure to take a minute to stop walking and enjoy looking at the River.

What about you? How will you take a minute today to 'smell the roses?'
